Canadian Solar enters photovoltaic inverters!


Recently, according to the Suzhou Ecological Environment Bureau, the environmental impact report form of Canadian Solar’s 3GW inverter project has been approved. This move means Canadian Solar will enter photovoltaic inverters.

According to the data, Canadian Solar is a photovoltaic integrated enterprise specializing in the research and development, production and sales of silicon ingots, silicon wafers, solar cells, solar modules and solar application products, as well as the design and installation of solar power plant systems. After years of development, it has become a leading photovoltaic company with a high degree of vertical integration capability. In 2020, the module shipment volume will be the fifth in the world, reaching 11.3GW.

However, even though Canadian Solar’s module shipments and revenues increased in 2020, its net profit fell by 14.3%. In the first quarter of this year, its net profit fell by 79% year-on-year, which also gave the market a certain degree of development prospects question.

The inverter is an important core component of the photovoltaic system. Although the cost is only about 3%, some inverter manufacturers believe that the inverter bears more than 95% of the responsibility in the photovoltaic system, which have an important impact for the stability of the power station and the final power generation.

In addition to photovoltaic modules, power station construction and energy storage systems are also Canadian Solar’s main businesses. Entering the photovoltaic inverter market can not only reduce Canadian Solar’s procurement costs, but also improve Canadian Canadian’s ability to control the industrial chain. It is a good way to kill two birds with one stone. More importantly, the total investment of the photovoltaic inverter project is only 10.8 million yuan, which is not high compared to the investment in other links of the industry chain.
